Flambeau has a full line of decoys.  They have been known for years as an economy producer of duck decoys, and while that is still mainly the case the quality has improved over time.  They have recently made a point of going with UV paint to use on their decoys.  UV paint doesn’t seem like a big deal to me and you, but it is a key ingredient to what a duck truly sees while out in the wild.  Dull and drab paint are not a real indication of what a duck sees on a daily basis.  The feathers on a duck are shiny and reflect In a very particular way.  They don’t shine so much as glisten when the sun hits them correctly.  Flambeau has found a way to make the paint on their plastic decoys shine in such a way as to make It appear natural.

Among their most popular decoys are the mallard decoys that are a staple among most duck hunters.  To branch out and make your spread appear natural I would suggest tailoring the species to match what you see on a yearly basis in your duck marsh.  When it comes to puddle ducks that means adding in some pintail decoys, shoveler decoys, teal decoys (green winged, blue winged and cinnamon) or perhaps even some widgeon decoys.  Basically any puddle duck that happens upon your little neck of the woods should be considered to add to your decoy spread.

If diving ducks are your thing, then you should start with a staple of the common divers in your area.  Many people have a large set of bluebill decoys to start their spread, but don’t branch out much from there.  If canvasback’s are common in your area, adding a contingent of canvasback decoys can be quite beneficial as their stark contrasting colors and bright white on the drakes are visible from a long distance.  In addition redheads decoys sport the same general contrasts to those of the canvasback.  If you are hunting in the wild rice a strong part of your spread should be ring neck decoys.  To ring neck ducks, the wild rice is the equivalent of crack in the city, they can’t get enough.

When it comes time to buy your duck decoys, make sure to keep Flambeau duck decoys in mind.
